Friendship and Discipleship
Being a friend can change a life.
Singing and Violin
At church, and at an assisted living facility.
Surveying / Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors (LSPS)
I am a member with LSPS, District 6. I love surveying and want to get back out in the field someday.
Outdoors
I have enjoyed trees since taking RNR 2001, Dendrology, in the Fall of 2013. I participated in the 2018 Providence Corporate Cup and I often jog/swim in my spare time. I own (and take an active part in maintaining) a fourplex in Baton Rouge. And I frequently get outdoors while living on the Goppelt family farm.
Computer Support
I've been working with computers since around 1996. Until around 2014, I found it to be both a useful hobby and a lot of fun. Now, my time is directed elsewhere, and I get my fun elsewhere, but I often still employ a God-given talent to learn new tech quickly as needed. I have built several websites for business/educational/political purposes (such as the ASCE at LSU student chapter website mentioned earlier). I initially wanted to get a college degree in technology, not engineering.
Past Membership in American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
I used to be a student member of ASCE, both in the national organization and in our local student chapter. I was also the webmaster for our student chapter in the calendar years 2011 and 2012. During that time, I upgraded the website, making it easier to manage and giving it a modern look. In the picture below, the 2012 officers (excepting our Steel Bridge chair) are shown along with our Faculty Advisor, Dr. Michele Barbato, and a guest speaker (which for this meeting was Bill Rushing from Waldemar S. Nelson, Inc. and Vice-President of the American Concrete Institute).

Work While in School at Louisiana State University
I have had the privilege of working at some sort of job during the majority of my college years.
For four semesters, I worked as a student researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. My boss was Dr. George Z. Voyiadjis, so my tasks related to his specialty of advanced mechanics of materials.
For two semesters, I worked as a geotechnical engineering co-op student for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. While at that job, I was able to experience geotechnical field testing firsthand!
After my freshman year, I spent a summer working as office manager for a local restaurant. People skills were a must and I made it my duty to maximize value for the company by cutting our expenses while still maintaining service for our employees and customers.
Two of my summers in my college years were spent working as a rodman for Baton Rouge Land Surveying, a division of Forte & Tablada (an engineering firm). Most of the practical surveying knowledge that I possessed upon graduation was acquired during those two summers. Forte & Tablada treated me like a surveyor-in-training, not just a rodman, by giving me challenging jobs to do and training me to do them. So I am very grateful to them.
